Tips to deal with Picky Eaters

Here are some tips and tricks to help you educate your children on better eating habits.
 

  1. Prepare the appropriate meal to your child
    You should prepare meals that are appropriate with his or her age, giving them a variety of foods to taste and opportunity to choose. These will help the child to grow healthier.
     

  2. Make sure your child eats on time
    Let your child familiarize themselves between feeling hungry and being full. It will help them to build an organized lifestyle, which is great for health!
     

  3. Let your child decide the amount of food they want
    Give your child the choice to decide how much they want to eat. Eating less or not eating during certain meals will not bring much negative effect, in fact, this will help to stimulate the child’s appetite and thus fix his picky eating problem.
     

  4. Wholesome sets of delicious food
    Try to consume the 7 major categories of food to provide different kinds of nutrition. You should try to add more variety to each meal. It is best to have two to three types of main food, for example, rice, noodles, fish, meat, egg and so on. By giving your child two to three types of vegetables and fruits and dairy products, this will help to ensure his diet is balanced.
     

  5. Be creative with your culinary styles
    Don’t stick to the same ingredients when you are preparing food for your child. Be creative! You should make use of different recipes within a week and try to avoid repeating the same meal.
     

  6. Be a role model by not being a picky eater
    When eating with your child, do not be selective with the food in front of them. Instead, you should make compliments about the shape and taste of the food.
     

  7. Don’t threaten or force your child
    Threatening or forcing your child to eat something they are not willing to consume will cause them to be defiant. You should not make things worse and in fact, you should make your child feel excited at each meal.
     

  8. Be motivating
    It is alright to give your child some words of motivation even if they have only made a little improvement on their eating habits. Compliment them by giving them a hug but do not reward them with their favorite food.
     

  9. Take it easy with the mess during mealtimes
    Do not make complaints or keep correcting your child’s mistake if they make a mess on the dining table. Let them wear a child’s apron or use a child’s bowl, so that you could avoid accidents and continue to maintain their interest for the food.
